Er... not Angel in the Christian sense; they're basically these giant, pretty insane creatures that are very hard to describe that attacked Tokyo-3 and the Eva pilots had to try and kill. Each one's unique and one of them hijacked her Evangelion whilst she was in it, forcing the others to literally tear it apart to kill the damn thing. It's how she lost her eye.
